The Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA) is committed to the protection of individuals’ rights and privacy and deems the lawful and proper treatment of personal data as important to its operations.
To this end, the GMA takes particular care when handling sensitive Personally Identifiable Information (PII) entrusted to it by stakeholders who use its services.
The need for GMA’s processing of personal data such as the collection, recording, use, storage, transfer and disposal of PII is to fulfil certain requirements of the Ghana Shipping Act, 2003 (Act 645) and the Ghana Shipping (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Regulation, 2016 (LI 2229).
